Course Summary

Distance: 9km / 5.6m

Starting in Langthwaite itself, you will soon be running along fields roughly following the Arkle Beck towards Scar House. Once at the house you will start a long steady hill along Scar Lane which will take you up onto the moor for a short open moor section following a well defined trod until you hit the Stang Road. You will travel up the road briefly before turning right and following a shooting track, commanding great views all along the Arkengarthdale valley and challenging you with its 'not as flat as you think it is' ups and downs. When you hit the Peat Moor Green corner, you will start a great descent into Booze. Once you’re through the hamlet itself you'll get the chance to stop for a nibble and a drink if you want one. The route then heads off into Slei Gill for a fast grassy path section out to Slei Gill House and back towards Storthwaite Hall past piles of mining spoil. This leads you directly back onto the low path to Langthwaite. Follow the Arkle Beck along a good path, with some rough stony sections to keep you thinking, right to the finish just outside the Red Lion.

Course Markings

Whilst we are operating under an FRA licence, this Christmas running of the route will be marked so anyone can have a go but please remember than GPX devices are not allowed to be used to help navigate during the race.

Aid Stations

Only the one outside Booze and its just over half way round, it will be stocked with mince pies, rum, coke and water and some other nibbles for the oddbods who don't like mince pies!

Toilets

There are paid toilets in Langthwaite between the parking field and the start line, they need 20p so you can have a pee!

Refreshments

We will have water and nibbles at the finish line as well as the Chistmas based selection on the aid station. There are also two local pubs that would appreciate a visit if you are stopping for a drink/food so check out the Red Lion or CB Inn.
NB: Please drink responsibly if you are driving to the event!

Runners & Rubbish

Please respect the trails and the beauty of the dales by disposing of any rubbish at one of our aid stations or take it home with you.

Code of conduct

Be polite to our marshals, first aiders and members of staff, these people are volunteering their free time to assist you in reaching the finish line and are doing everything they can to get you there.

Do not rely on marshals, photographers or other staff persons to direct you on your course. It is YOUR responsibility to know your course and follow the course signs.

Remember to always remain on the designated marked trails, no short cutting.

Poles are allowed (but probably not necessary), please be conscious of where you’re pointing them.

This course includes single track. If you are attempting to pass, please alert the runner in front of you before flying past them. Likewise, if you hear a runner approaching you from behind, attempt to find a spot to allow the runner to pass.

As a general rule, when passing a runner, announce, 'on your left'.

Uphill runners/hikers have the right of way to downhill runners. Remain in control as you descend and respect the other runners.

Everyone is after the same goal here so let’s be respectful of each other’s races and have fun.
